Home Air Conditioning - 'Thermostat Wars'

Let's See How Many Grand Rapids Area Homeowners Can Relate To Any Of This.

Even the best-matched couple can come to 'blows' over the temperature setting in their home. "Thermostat Wars' result when one spouse or the other runs hotter or cooler than the other's.ThermWars As a result, one either swelters or freezes indoors while the other is perfectly content -- except for that nagging feeling that their partner is uncomfortable. However, most homeowners struggle with comfort which is related to more than just body metabolism. It has more to do with inter-related systems, underperforming systems of the home or design flaws.

Funny how it all centers around a thermostat on the wall.

Not surprisingly, thermostat wars tend to erupt in summer and winter and are forgotten in spring and fall, leading to a seasonal cycle of control nudging, blanket stealing and some 'endearing nicknames' that only serve to mask an ongoing predicament.

The predominant kind of thermostat war is the one between those who understand the concept of the thermostat and those who don't. It is difficult to believe, but there are still people who don't get it. They would crank the thermostat all the way down when they feel hot and all the way up when they feel cold.

I kid you not, I heard a story several years ago about a guy who wanted to know "how to educate their significant other not to do that". the only way to deal with his particular problem was, get this, install a fake thermostat. They fiddle with the thermostat all the time. Sometimes they push it up. Sometimes they push it down. Sometimes, they claim the thermostat is not calibrated right.

With today's high energy costs, more often than not, one person is thinking 'comfort' the other is thinking utility bills and you can't have it both ways.

As you can imagine raising and lowering the thermostat is one of the costliest things you can do.

Very often thermostat wars occur when one person is in one room that is warm and the other is in a room that is cool. This uneven heating or cooling can create havoc among family members and has a variety of potential causes.
